Fernanda Feher

(São Paulo, Brazil, 1988)

is a multimedia artist whose practice centers on collage and figurative painting in water-based oil and watercolor, and extends to ceramic sculpture and installation. Feher subverts traditional portraiture by situating her subjects within fantastic — at times structurally impossible — landscapes dense with symbolic charge.

Women and nature form the core of her imagery, often unfolding in surreal configurations that resist straightforward allegory. Fehér works with recurring symbols, patterned surfaces, minute details, stickers, and saturated color palettes that oscillate between the playful and the uncanny. While her compositions may initially register as light or whimsical, they hold a sustained engagement with the tensions of femininity and motherhood within social systems still shaped by patriarchal structures. Relationships between human and non-human, as well as between matter and spirit, further complicate the spatial and psychological atmosphere of her work.

Feher recently presented the solo exhibition Untamed (2025) at Trotter & Sholer, New York, where she previously participated in the group exhibition A Suitable Accomplishment (2023). In 2021, she held the solo exhibition The Conflict Between the Eagle and the Serpent at Galeria Millan, São Paulo. She has also participated in SP–Arte, ArPA, ArtRio (Brazil), and Untitled, Miami, and maintains an ongoing collaboration with Gisela Projects.

Her practice has been further developed through residencies including Residency Unlimited (New York), Pivô Arte e Pesquisa (São Paulo, 2019), and 3331 Arts Chiyoda (Tokyo, 2018).
